Some Perspective

Some Perspective After a day of relative quiet in Iraq yesterday, we're still hearing about the 16 lost military lives in a helicopter shot down in Afghanistan. The media just does not know what to do with themselves if they don't have deaths in Iraq to screech about. Meanwhile, much to the dismay of the left, a widow of a soldier lost in Iraq beseeches the President,

"I said: 'I know people are pushing you, but please don't pull the guys out of Iraq too soon,' " said Crystal Owen, whose husband, Staff Sgt. Mike Owen, was killed in Iraq last year. "Don't let my husband -- and 1,700-plus other deaths -- be in vain," she added during a private meeting with Mr. Bush at the North Carolina base.

"They were over there, fighting for a democratic nation, and I hope you'll keep our service members over there until the mission can be accomplished."

Seventeen hundred + American dead in Iraq, not to mention the countless Iraqis who have fallen, both innocent and not innocent. The price of war is never pleasant, however necessary. So what I would like to do is present some perspective,

"Crime in the United States accounts for more death, injuries and loss of property then all Natural Disasters combined. The Disaster Center is pleased to be able to provide you with access to the statistics of crime compiled by the Federal Bureau of Investigation."

The crime statistics illustrate that America is more dangerous per capita than Iraq! How about a really big killer of Americans? Like sports?

"Overall, "more than 6,000 deaths each year are associated with sports and recreation, not including the many thousands that occur in connection with recreational use of motor vehicles in traffic,"

We've lost 1700 + brave Americans in just over two years to terrorists who would be trying to walk over the border into America if they weren't otherwise engaged. As we all know, that's not too difficult. Come on people! Feint of heart types never won any contest, and this contest is for the survival of civilization. The enemy would drag us back to the middle ages! This is a war we cannot afford to lose!
